Our Home Waters
Although we don't have a
river running through our backyard or rolling waves a mile down the street, we
are centrally located to many NJ rivers and at the heartbeat of the NY metro
area for fly fishers looking for a diverse well stocked fly shop. Some of the NJ
rivers we would consider our home waters to be include Ken Lockwood Gorge on the
South Branch of the Raritan, the Pequest, the Muscenetcong, the Flatbrook, the
Ramapo, and the Paulinskill. We also cater heavily to those traveling to
the Catskills of NY, PA, CT, NE Saltwater locations, and the Great Lakes tributaries (Salmon River in Pulaski, Cattaraugus Creek, Oak
Orchard, etc) for salmon and steelhead.
Spey Casting & Fishing
Our affiliate company East
Coast Spey provides lessons in spey casting for both single and double
handed anglers. We offer both group and private classes depending upon your
needs, wants, and desires.
Maybe you're new to spey and want to learn, maybe you're fishing for trout in a small
stream and can't keep your line out of the trees, maybe you want to cast large
saltwater patterns for stripers in a rip, or maybe you're heading off to Russia
or BC and need to hone your skills to maximize your trip investment. Simply put,
East Coast Spey can lead you to spey
casting success. We
also demonstrate for various groups, clubs, and organizations. Our goal is to demonstrate how spey casting can add effectiveness, efficiency and excitement to
fly fishing.

properly use it. This will entail casting with both one and two
hands. Steelhead/salmon season is around the corner, come see why switch
rods are getting all the hype. They are also extremely effective tools for
trout and smallmouth bass. Bring your waders and try your hand at casting
with a switch rod. Free

Single Hand Spey Day
Hosted by shop owner Andrew
Moy, Wednesday September 2nd
at 6:30 pm on the Passaic River.
Andrew will be demonstrating the effectiveness of spey casting with a single
handed rod. This style of casting will revolutionize the way you fish
around tight cover. For fishing in NJ this is a super effective way to
avoid loosing flies to trees and scratching your head when there's no room to
cast. Way more effective then normal roll casting, spey casting will bring
excitement to fishing in tight areas. Bring your waders and rod and try
your hand at spey casting with a single handed rod. Free
for everyone, registration required.

Missouri River, Montana
July 1st-8th,
2009
Do you Like dry fly fishing? If so, you'll love the
Missouri River. The Missouri is like a giant spring creek, only it's a tailwater. The rainbow and brown trout are super plentiful and extremely
hard fighting. Incredible hatches of caddis and PMD's drive hoards of big
trout to the surface. It's not uncommon to see a pod of 50-100 rainbows
rising continuously in formation or a smaller pod of large browns feeding along
a grassy bank. Truly a unique fishery. It is also a great nymph
fishery and the streamer fishing for big browns can also be outstanding...
