Jack Skelley - March 22, 2020

Jack Skelly. To know Jack is to love him, fresh bruschetta, and his Atlantic Salmon flies and fishing vignettes. Jack, whose fies include natural materials, fishes the Gaspe Peninsula regularly. After Jack graduated with honors from the State University of New York, College of Environmental Science and Forestry, otherwise known as SUNY ESF, he was teaching environmental sciences courses at Saranac Community College and braving the sub -zero weather in the ADK, a region he and his wife called home for years. As time went on, as it does, Jack and his wife Sharon raised their family and Jack’s careers continued to include teaching, providing customer service at Radio Shack, and creating / inventing/ implementing the computerized scouting program for the NJ Devils Hockey team.
In the past 5 years, Jack’s story continued with a chapter of civilian employment at Picatinny Arsenal, in NJ. As we know, the Federal background check and security clearance process can be quite lengthy and tedious. As a first in Tight Lines Fly Fishing’s 20 year history, Andrew was literally interrogated by a team of 2, non-fishing, US Federal security agents, who were focused not on his relationship with Jack or on Jack’s character, but on why exactly Jack had crossed the US Canadian border so many times. Andrew found himself explaining the love of Atlantic Salmon fishing and what it encompasses, to three guys who arrived in a Suburban, wearing dark clothes and sunglasses. And at the center of it all, was Jack Skelly and his Atlantic Salmon flies!
