Summer Steelhead
Deschutes River - Maupin, Oregon
Dates: September 20-26, 2016
Consider joining us as we cast floating lines and skate dry flies to one of the greatest runs of summer steelhead in the country. If the fishing is not enough, you will have the opportunity to float through 25 miles of spectacular scenery where the opportunity to view bighorn sheep, eagles and other wildlife is likely.
We will fly into Portland on September 20 and drive to Maupin where we will overnight at a local hotel. Our outfitter, River Runner Outfitters, will meet us before sunrise on September 21 and we will launch for a 25 mile float down the scenic lower Deschutes River. We will spend the next 4 days camping alongside prime runs holding hot summer steelhead.
Each day will start prior to sunrise with a quick cup of coffee and light breakfast before heading off to the river with our floating lines. Deschutes summer fish are very surface oriented and the opportunity to take a steelhead on a skated dry fly is a definite possibility. If you've never experienced a hot steelhead taking a skated bomber, this is your chance! Once the sun hits the water we will take a break for a hearty riverside breakfast. Mid day will either be spent throwing sink tips in faster water where the chromers will be taking a break from the mid day sun or floating to our next camp. After lunch, most anglers will choose to take a nap in order to rest up for the evening's fishing. Dinner is served after guests change and refresh. The dinner menu includes tender cuts of steak, grilled prawns, baby back ribs, wild sockeye salmon, roasted potatoes, BBQ vegetables, fresh breads, and more. Retiring to a comfortable tent complete with cots and sleeping pads is a welcomed event after a long day of fishing.
The camping portion of the trip will end in the mid-afternoon on September 24 when we leave the river and drive back to Maupin where we will overnight at a local hotel. Our guides will pick us up at the hotel before daybreak on September 25 for our last full day float.. After this float, we will drive back to Portland where we will spend the night before having a shuttle service drive us to the airport on the morning of the 26th.
Cost for the trip is $2995 and includes the 4 day/3night float/camp trip, single day float on September 25, guide gratuities, transportation between Portland and Maupin and lodging on the nights of September 20, 24 and 25. Not included are: airfare, alcoholic beverages, fishing license/boaters pass, and meals on September 20, 25 and 26.
Call us at (973)244-5990 to reserve your spot. Trip is limited to 6 anglers.
