Ben Turpin - February 25th, 2023
Ben Turpin has been fly fishing Pennsylvania for over 30 years and started Ben Turpin Custom Rod Building and Guide Service in 1997. Based out of Saylorsburg, PA, Ben is located just minutes from the Brodhead and McMichael Creeks where his career started, but he also enjoys guiding the Delaware River and the trout streams in Central Pennsylvania. Probably best known for teaching anglers how to become efficient nymph fishermen, Ben also enjoys tackling tough trout on the surface during the many hatches found on the productive streams he guides. Ben has taught hundreds of people how to fly fish and tie flies over the years and looks forward to sharing his experience with you.
Currently Ben works as the Stream Manger for Pohoqualine Fish Association, one of the oldest fly fishing clubs in the country. When at Pohoqualine he is responsible for maintaining their 10 miles of McMichael Creek and teaching the members and guests how to improve their skills. When he’s not at the club Ben can be found guiding the local streams, in his work shop building bamboo rods or at his desk tying flies for the next outing. Although Ben no longer guides full time, trips are still available a couple of days a week and he has plenty of help from fellow guides Kevin Craig and Evan Makuvak, who round out his team of guides in the Poconos.
