A unique fly rod series designed for a special style of tournament stream angling in Europe where speed and line control are paramount to success. These are extremely fast, 10-foot, 4-piece rods with light, sensitive tips to help anglers make short, accurate drifts with weighted nymphs. The technique requires very little in the way of traditional casting. Anglers actually flick weighted nymphs upstream of the target area and then, using the extra rod length, and long, light leaders, guide the flies along the bottom, almost pulling the rig downstream instead of using the standard "dead-drift" technique. The extra-fast taper in these rods provides a quick hook-set, so anglers can react before the fish spits the fly. The 3-weight is for smaller fish and protecting very light tippets. The 4-weight is for slightly heavier tippets and larger fish. The technique is quickly gaining a following in the U.S. as anglers discover new ways to fool pressure-sensitive trout.
Flyfishing for trout is a mystical, almost spiritual event for many anglers. Loomis put a bit of that spirit, along with a little of the mystique into each one of their fly rods. It's not always about catching the biggest or the most or in some cases, catching any fish at all, because for some, catching fish is a bonus. The feeling of peace and serenity we experience on the water is something we all love about fishing. It's being in the mountains and the valleys, surrounded by all that is beautiful in nature. It's the experience of making a nice loop or the satisfaction of a delicate presentation that fulfills a need deep in our souls. It's the expectation and exhilaration of watching a small dry fly floating high on the water as it makes it way through the likely feeding station of a big rainbow. It truly is a "dance on water" and it's what inspired Loomis to create the StreamDance Series. Loomis ventured down a new path cosmetically with these rods - shifting from the stark look of technology, embracing the beauty and spirit of what we know is truly the essence of flyfishing. Loomis added subtle colors to mirror the memories in our mind's eye of the streamside experience. They also added a unique "yin-yang" design cutout in the reel seat, with a beautiful wood insert made of California Buckeye Burl and the highest grade of species cork available to complete the handle. They also added the magic of Steve Rajeff's intimate understanding of blank design and GLX, along with the lightest, most durable guides in the industry to complete a true work of art Loomis calls StreamDance.
The name says it all. It's hands and knees approaches, gin-clear water and trout with severe aversions for sloppy casts and the associated "plops". It's long, delicate, whisper-thin leaders and #22 dries. It's all about stealth and catching fish in spite of the odds. These rods are based on the original StreamDance GLX Presentation Series and like the flies we tie to emulate the insects that trout favor, have gone through a metamorphous in their own right. Loomis did some tweaking, made a few improvements here and there, given them their own color, their own identity and made a home for them in the hierarchy of G.Loomis fly rods. They're smooth casting, presentation rods for the angler that isn't concerned with long casts or power strokes. Featuring the finest diameter tips in the business, they'll track as if they can read your mind and load easily for short, precise casts and delicate presentations. There are seven rods in the family, ranging from 2- thru 5-weight, varying in length from 7'9" to 9' and each come in a soft, protective rod sock and durable travel case.
